Keith Smoker on Writing for "Fundamentally Cynical"
Today I interviewed fellow "Fundamentally Cynical" writer Keith Smoker. Keith has been writing for the show since its conception in 2018 and we've been friends since then. While it might seem overly egotistical to compose an article about a Television series that I had a part in creating, I was genuinely intrigued to hear Keith's take on our three-year-long endeavor. Here's how our conversation went:
Me: "How did we get this far? How did this happen? Do you ever think about that?"
Keith: "I can tell you that it wasn’t too hard!"
Me: "I know it wasn’t too hard, that’s what’s crazy. To me, it proves that anyone can do this. Anyone can sit down and write an episode, animate it or whatever, and can get somewhat of a following. Do you ever think about the show unobjectively, and think holy crap?"
Keith: "Yeah and it was a natural progression too."
Me: "Are you a little worried about trying to top our own name? Have you thought about that?"
Keith: "No I’m not worried about it, I think we’re going to continue to have great ideas. Just improve on that, to the point where we may even want to make the episodes a little longer."
While Keith and I can attest, making shows isn't a walk in the park. It's absolutely one of the most rewarding things we've ever done. Keith is one of the hardest workers I've ever co-written with and it's been a pleasure to have him on the show as long as we have. I look forward to working with him in the next season and hopefully beyond that.
